Parent Portal
This project involved designing a centralized digital platform to help teachers and school systems manage communication with parents. The platform includes messaging, grade sharing, report card uploads, form signatures, and conference tracking, all in one place. Designed with a user-centered approach, the platform ensures an intuitive experience for both tech-savvy and non-tech-savvy users. The solution aims to improve communication efficiency, transparency, and data privacy in educational settings. Through this project, I gained valuable experience in balancing functionality with simplicity and catering to diverse user groups.
Case Study
-
Objective: Create a centralized digital platform for teachers and school systems to manage communication with parents, including messaging, grade sharing, report card uploads, form signatures, and conference tracking.
Target Audience: Teachers and school systems seeking an efficient, streamlined approach to parent communication.
-
Sole designer and developer: Responsible for concept development, research, wireframing, and prototyping.
-
Process: Followed the Design Thinking framework for a user-centered approach.
Empathize: Identified common pain points in parent communication through informal discussions with educators.
Define: Outlined key features to address communication needs, such as messaging, grade sharing, and document tracking.
Ideate: Generated ideas for an interface that would be intuitive for teachers to manage and easy for parents to navigate.
Prototype: Created low- and high-fidelity prototypes using Figma, illustrating key functionalities and user flows.
-
Ensuring ease of use for both tech-savvy and non-tech-savvy parents.
Balancing comprehensive functionality with a streamlined interface to avoid overwhelming users.
Developing features to support privacy and secure communication.
-
Designed a user-friendly interface that consolidates key parent communication tools, including a messaging system, grade sharing, and signature-ready forms.
Integrated a conference log feature, enabling teachers to track parent interactions across the school year.
Conceptually included security measures (data privacy) to ensure compliance with educational privacy standards.
-
Created a prototype that received positive feedback from peers, with educators noting the potential to streamline communication and improve transparency.
Developed enhanced skills in feature prioritization for educational software.
-
Reinforced the importance of simplicity and ease of use in educational tools, especially when catering to a broad audience.
Gained valuable experience in designing for multiple user groups within a single platform (teachers and parents).
Plan to iterate on the design by adding more customization options and exploring additional security features.
