WOOD.PAPER.GLASS

The WOOD.PAPER.GLASS project involved designing a website for a local art studio to showcase their products and provide information about upcoming classes. As the sole designer, I conducted secondary research to analyze existing art studio websites and identify effective design strategies. Utilizing Squarespace, I created a visually appealing and user-friendly site that successfully attracted real users, leading to increased product views and class sign-ups. This project highlighted the importance of an engaging online presence for local businesses and provided valuable insights from user interactions.

Case Study

    • Objective: To create a website for a local art studio that showcases their products and offers information about upcoming classes, facilitating engagement and sales.

    • Target Audience: The website is designed for anyone interested in art, including potential customers looking to purchase art supplies or sign up for classes, as well as the local community.

    • Role: As the sole designer, I managed all aspects of the project, including research, design, content creation, and implementation.

    • User Research: Conducted secondary research by analyzing existing art studio websites to identify effective design elements and features that attract and engage potential customers. Reviewed user feedback on these sites to understand common expectations and preferences.

    • Competitive Analysis: Reviewed competitor websites to determine successful strategies for product presentation, class scheduling, and overall user experience.

    • Tools Used: Utilized Squarespace to design and build the website, leveraging its templates and features to create a visually appealing and functional site.

    • Wireframes and Prototyping: Developed low-fidelity wireframes to outline the website's structure, including product listings, class information, and contact details. Created high-fidelity mockups to visualize the final design and user interactions.

    • Usability Testing: While no formal usability testing was conducted, I gathered feedback from peers during the design process to ensure clarity and usability.

    • Results: The website successfully attracted real users, facilitating product views and class sign-ups, which enhanced the studio's online presence and customer engagement.

    • Key Metrics: Metrics indicated an increase in website traffic and user engagement, as evidenced by the number of products viewed and class registrations following the launch of the site.

  • Through this project, I learned the importance of creating an inviting online space for local businesses. The design process emphasized the need for a user-friendly interface that effectively communicates offerings while also encouraging community involvement. Real user engagement provided valuable insights into user preferences and behavior, informing further refinements to the design. In future projects, I aim to incorporate more structured usability testing sessions to gather more in-depth feedback and improve the overall user experience.
